Types of Childcare and Daycare

What is childcare? Childcare today forms an integral plank in early childhood education and family life. The various forms of childcare and daycare now available in the market allow kids to grow socially, intellectually and emotionally while both their parents work at the office. The various forms of childcare and daycare include in their plans fun activities, outdoor plays, school field trips, summer camp, sports, music classes and art classes.

Daycare centers are designed especially for kids from birth to the age of three in order to give them a head start with formal education and prepare them for kindergarten. Daycare also serves as a venue for working parents who can keep themselves occupied during their ‘working’ hours. The advantage of daycare centers is that working parents have no time to spare for household chores and kids are kept busy in a safe and secure environment. This ensures better behavioral control and more personalized care from caregivers. Daycare also provides an ideal setting for parents who are away on business or vacation. Most daycare centers have programs that can be customized according to the preferences of both the daycare provider and the daycare clients.

Preschool Daycare is another option for working parents who want to pursue their education and does not have the time to devote solely to their kids. Susy’s family childcare provide general day care services for kids ranging from newborns and infants to toddlers and preschoolers. Daycare helps children develop their skills, socialize with other kids, gain confidence and build their self-esteem. As most day care services target working parents, the curriculum and structure remains the same for all children irrespective of the age. Daycare centres also allow kids to interact with other toddlers in a natural environment.

Preschool Daycare is a kind of daycare that allows children aged 6 years and below to attend classes at their own pace. Children attending preschool may be enrolled in an intensive course which offers specialized knowledge or be taught on the job. Specialized courses in science, art, computer studies and foreign languages are offered. Daycare providers use a system of ranking and positioning children based on their performance, developmental needs and ability. Grads and graduation certificates are awarded for top performers.

Infant Daycare services are available for babies and infants up to six months. Babies get a temporary free pass from a licensed nurse to attend to him/her at the child care facility. The services are provided by licensed professionals in a confidential environment. A wide range of baby related services like feeding, bathing, changing, playing and educational activities are provided. Infants get adequate exposure to natural light and fresh air. Daycare services for infants are intended to educate and entertain the baby, but not to substitute the role of a primary caregiver.

General Purpose Daycare services are intended for parents who need assistance with their young children but who cannot spend all their time at home or in a daycare. Daycare services are provided by skilled early childhood educators and include physical education and stimulation. Enrollment is usually on a first come, first served basis and is usually open for children ages six weeks to three years old. Most day cares have separate classrooms, play areas, sitting and resting areas and are staffed by early childhood educators, nurses, social workers and other professionals.
