The number one scholarship program for college students in New York is the scholarship program sponsored by the New York State Department of Education. This program gives financial aid to eligible New York State resident college students who demonstrate extraordinary academic ability and commitment to their education. In addition to receiving financial aid, the students may be eligible to participate in New York City Community College programs or community service, and receive college credit towards a bachelor’s degree. The State Department awards over twenty five scholarships every year to encourage bright, motivated students to pursue their dreams.
One of the largest and most generous educational awards for immigrants in New York City, The Ascend scholarship program gives out as much as three scholarships every academic year that pay for full tuition and housing. Applicants must be New York State residents, in need of at least a Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. For students who are US citizens, they must also be enrolled in the United States legally as a college student. There is no limit on the number of scholarships this program offers.

Another excellent scholarship program is provided by the New York City Housing Development Corporation. Last, but not least, there is the Federal Pell Grant scholarship program. It is a scholarship program that was created by the United States Government to provide students with the financial assistance they need to complete higher education. The name is quite catchy, as it is actually a grant rather than a loan. In order to qualify for this scholarship, students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and submit it on or before the first day of class.
